threads

i function as a primarily private and mutuals only blog. this means that i only write threads with mutuals. if i don’t follow you, it’s nothing personal. i am easily overwhelmed and try to keep a tight list of the people i’m following. para, multi para, and novella, are my preferred methods of writing, and while i occassionally do one liners, i very rarely keep them that short. i do format and more often than not, use icons, but i don’t require that my partner match my style. i do try to match my partners style to some degree if they format differently.

inbox

the inbox is open to mutuals and non mutuals alike. in character asks (aside from memes) are limited to mutuals only. out of character asks are open to everyone. memes are a good way for me to get a better idea of how our muses might interact. i’m not terribly picky about memes, but let it be known romantic asks and memes sent from people emilie has no prior interaction with will either be treated as crack, or ignored all together.

anon hate will be deleted and blocked. constructive criticism on and off of anon is encouraged. if you have suggestions, questions, or comments, i do want to hear them. i love constructive criticism it helps me become a better writer.

shipping

gwen is bisexual, and dylan is pan with leanings towards men. while i am not single ship, i tend to practice ship exclusivity, wherein i will only write a given ship with a certain person. despite it being loosely canon, i am not a fan of keith/gwen.

nsfw and triggers

nsfw of a sexual nature will be highly unlikely but if it does happen, it will be tagged and placed under a read more.

triggers will be tagged ‘trigger //’. triggering material may include alcoholism, assault, blood, disassociation, kidnapping, ptsd, violence, and other dark topics.

i make my own icons and graphics, and have spent a great deal of time on them. if you want them, all you have to do is ask. i’m a nice person, i usually don’t mind as long as you ask first.

CHILDHOOD

gwen valerie barrywood was born on july 31st, the first child of maddison and henry barrywood, an affluent family that would soon introduce another member, with dylan gray barrywood being born on september 23rd, the next year. the distinctively freckled siblings with copper colored hair and piercing green eyes were all but inseparable from their introduction.

THE SQUAD

in middle school, gwen befriends esther tolbert after being paired with her on a school project. it's not the first time she or dylan has developed a friendship exclusive from each other, but it's the first one to have any serious substance to it. even as the group extends to include ben 'scrags' scragkowski, and keith swanson, she never drifts too far from her brother.

the solve it squad forms unintentionally it starts out as fun, and then the news begins to pick up on their exploit. what was fun and games becomes nationally acclaimed, a job with fame attached as they unmask any number of spooks. even so, she always makes it home on friday nights to watch x files with dylan.

LIFE AFTER

the case of the demonic apostle seems to be the same as any other, until cluebert is the one to disappear instead of gwen. they find the dog ritually slaughtered, and the squad is suddenly over. with scrags self isolating, esther trying to create logic from a senseless occurence before retreating into addiction, dylan is the one that keeps his sister from spiraling over the edge.

in adulthood, they both try to move on. dylan works towards becoming a psychologist, specializing in teenagers and trauma, while gwen pursues acting and becomes marginally successful, starring as a cop and doctor in a major tv show. she later starts to write mystery novels, and marries her manager, a venture capitalist by the name of nathaniel sarnarov. she maintains her last name and has two sons with him, ben and urie. it's very much an existence composed of settling, and believing that it's simply as good as it gets.

THE PAST NEVER DIES

when scrags walks into the barnes and nobles of her deserted book signing, gwen doesn't even recognize him. after 20 years, she's all but managed to scrub the nostalgic glow off of the trauma of the past. all it takes though is scrags telling her that the demonic apostle is back, and she's pulled right back into the storm that dominated her childhood and nearly took her life.

when it's discovered at the end of the case that the demonic apostle has been dead for months, and that it was all a ruse, she isn't entirely sure if she's relieved or sad that it's over. it does provide clarity though as she watches keith be placed in the back of a police car. she initiates the divorce proceedings she's had her lawyer sitting on for years. when the squad reforms, it is without keith, but with the addition of her brother, as they all finally begin to fully heal from all the trauma they've collectively sustained.

gwen is a member of the solve it squad, a nationally acclaimed kid detective agency made up of herself, ben scragkowski, esther tolbert, and keith swanson. dylan, a year younger than her, is not directly involved with the squad but remains quite close with his sister.

i have a right to be upset. i loved them too, you know.

when cluebert is sacrificed by the demonic apostle, the squad falls to pieces. scrags isolates himself, esther tries to make sense of the seseless, and gwen barely holds onto her sanity. dylan shoulders the brunt of the load in getting gwen back on her feet after several close calls that very nearly land her in rehab. when it's all said and done, he gets his sister back, but she's changed by the traumas she's experienced.

everyone has moved on but i am still here.

taking place during the course of the show, the squad searches for cluebert's killer, only to find that it's a copycat. in the end, when the curtain falls, it's revealed that keith staged the whole thing, having killed cluebert's killer months before. in the end, keith is arrested for manslaughter and a litany of other charges.

healing begins the moment you want it to.

the squad reforms without keith, a new van and a new adventure. in the event that gwen is with nathaniel during the events of the show, she starts the divorce proceedings and tries to balance the demands of being a mom with the newly rediscovered joy she finds in coming back together with the squad.

this is what you get for not believing in demons.

cluebert is never murdered by the demonic apostle, instead gwen is taken. a pentagram is found drawn in her blood with torn scraps of clothing, locks of hair, teeth. it doesn't take a detective to guess that she's gone, but they're wrong. two years after gwen's memorial is held, keith hits the man who had been the demonic apostle with his car, and he confessed as he died in his arms that gwen was in fact very much still alive. a source of blood for other rituals, her supposed death was merely to throw them off the trail.

what should have been a happy ending then and there, leads to two more years of hell for gwen. keith takes the mask and robe and continues to feed and terrorize her as the apostle in order to further fuel his supposed heroism as he concocted a plot of how to bring the squad together for the moment of truth. the events unfold quite similarly to the show, with dylan and the scooby gang being additions to the team in their efforts to find the apostle who had supposedly murdered gwen four years prior. it's during keith's grandiose reveal that he makes it known that not only is the apostle dead, but gwen is alive.

gwen is finally released from her four years of captivity, now 19 and traumatized, when keith leads them to the place she's being held. the official police report says that keith swanson ran from the scene of the crime and is wanted for questioning. after hearing the story, no one questions the flecks of red on any of the young adults' clothing.
